2000 Cutter Recap
The Fair Lawn Varsity compiled a very successful 20-8 record. It was Fair Lawn's second 20-win season in the past 3 years. and brought the Seniors three year total to an outstanding 60-22.
The Cutters qualified for the State Tournament for the 5th straight season, winning a pair of games before losing in the Semifinals to eventual Sectional Champion, Kearny. Fair Lawn was selected to the Bergen County Coaches Tournament for a school record 4th consecutive year and finished in Second Place in the NBIL, one game behind Bergenfield.
Batting .331 as a team, Fair Lawn fielded a strong 4-man pitching rotation and often wowed the fans with their spectacular defensive play. The hallmark of the 2000 squad was its' "never say die" toughness, a direct result of the spirited Seniors, Rozema, Cervone, Harris, Mehl, Havassy, Mykulak, Concepcion and Kemp. This is perhaps best evidenced by the Cutters' extraordinary road record. The "road warriors" amassed a 12-3 record away from beautiful Dean Martino field, chalking up victories at Bergenfield, Ramsey, Pascack Valley and Vernon.
Fair Lawn finished the 2000 campaign ranked #4 in the Bergen Record Group 3-4 Poll. AND, Amazingly enough, # 1 in the Fair Lawn Shopper News. |
