4/1/00 -- Fair Lawn 11...Mahwah 3:  Scoring 7 unearned runs in the top of the 1st, the Cutters got off to a fast start in their season opener.  Sr. RH Josh Mehl allowed 2 earned runs over 6 innings of work, striking out 7.  Ken Cavanaugh led the 12-hit attack with 3 hits and 4 RBIs.

4/3/00 -- Fair Lawn 10...Northern Highlands 0 (6 inn.)Sr. Joe Harris was the star on this day firing a 3-hit complete game.  Infielders Ryan Cervone and Mike Rozema contributed 2 hits apiece, and Matt Kemp broke the game open with a bases-loaded double.

4/5/00 -- Fair Lawn 13...Indian Hills 4:  The Cutter offense explodes for 12 hits on this day.  Winning pitcher Derek Concepcion helped his own cause with 3 hits and 3 runs scored; while sophomore Tom Letizia cracked 3 hits and drove in 2.  PH Ken Cavanaugh belted a 2-run homer and senior Josh Havassy contributed 3 RBIs.

4/7/00 -- Pascack Valley 12...Fair Lawn 6:  Fair Lawn battled back from a 6-2 deficit to tie the game at 6, only to see the Indians explode for 6 runs to decide the contest.  Mike Rozema went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Tom Letizia 2 for 4 in the losing effort.

4/10/00 -- Fair Lawn 12...Pascack Hills 2:  Mike Rozema hit for the cycle in leading the Cutters to a 12-2 win over Pascack Hills.  Rozema drove in 3 runs as Fair Lawn enjoyed a 16-hit day.  Tom Letizia had a double and triple while Derek Concepcion homered.  Joe Harris was the beneficiary as he pitched 6 innings to earn his second victory.

4/12/00 --  Fair Lawn 5...Ramsey 1:  The Cutters rode the strong pitching of Josh Mehl in handing Ramsey their first loss of the season.  (Ramsey entered the game as the #1 Group 1-2 school in the county.)  Ken Cavanaugh and Tom Letizia each contributed 2-RBI singles to support an excellent Fair Lawn defensive effort.  

4/14/00 --  Fair Lawn 4...Wayne Hills 1:  Fair Lawn goes without a loss this week and now their record stands at 6 - 1.    Jr. Ben Mehl turned in 5 strong innings in his first Varsity start to pick up the win.  Ryan Cervone, Dan Rosenberg and Derek Concepcion each chipped in 2 hits each to lead the Cutters offensively.  Rosenberg saved the game with the defensive play of the year, reaching over and falling through the left field fence to rob WH of a 3-run homer.

4/24/00 --  Fair Lawn 6...Bergenfield 2:  Mike Rozema had a spectacular day to back the 3-hit pitching of Joe Harris as Fair Lawn turned back the County's #1 Group 3-4 school, 6 - 2.  Rozema went 4 for 4 with 2 triples, 1 homer and 4 runs scored.  Josh Mehl pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn the save.  The Cutters move into the Division I lead with this victory.

4/26/00 --  Old Tappan 8...Fair Lawn 6:  The Cutters 4-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Golden Knights.  Dan Rosenberg went 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored. 

4/27/00 --  Fair Lawn 13...Demarest 3:  Behind Derek Concepcion's complete-game pitching, the Cutters bounce back for a morning win this Thursday.  Every starter had a hit in this 17-hit attack, led by Concepcion's and Matt Kemp's 3 hits each.  Ryan Cervone, Tom Letizia, Mike Rozema and Joe Harris collected 2 hits each.  Rozema homered for the third consecutive game. 

4/28/00 --  Fair Lawn 11...Mahwah 7:  Fair Lawn explodes for 18 hits in defeating the Thunderbirds.  Brian Mykulak drives in 3 while Dan Rosenberg, Ryan Cervone and Tom Letizia collect 2 hits apiece.  Ben Mehl goes 6 innings for the win.

4/29/00 --  Ramapo 4...Fair Lawn 0:  The Cutters bats were silenced by Sean Sosenko's 3-hit pitching.  Joe Harris turned in 6 strong innings on the mound and left fielder Dan Rosenberg wowed the Dean Martino crowd with 2 diving catches and an outfield assist.

5/1/00 --  Northern Highlands 4...Fair Lawn 3:  The Highlanders pushed across an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to nip the Cutters.  Josh Havassy and Brian Mykuluk chipped in 2 hits each to lead Fair Lawn.  The loss drops Fair Lawn into a 3-way tie for the NBIL lead.

5/3/00 --  Fair Lawn 11...Indian Hills 6:  The Fair Lawn bats exploded helping the Cutters overcome a 4-0 deficit in winning for the 10th time this season.  Tom Letizia 4 for 4, and Matt Kemp 3 for 4, combined for 6 RBIs to lead the way.  Ben Mehl went the first 5 innings to notch his third win and Jake Strauss picked up the save.

Joe Harris was the story...stopping the big bats
of PV in throwing a NO HITTER!  Joe used 90 pitches,
striking out 4 in hurling his gem.  Particularly impressive is that
PV had collected 61 hits in their previous 5 games.  Derek Concepcion
and Mike Rozema clubbed 2-run homers to provide all the
offense that would be needed.  Super Soph Tom Letizia rapped
base hits in his first 3 plate appearances, making it 7
consecutive hits before being retired in the 6th inning to halt his
amazing streak.



5/8/00 --  Fair Lawn 4...Pascack Hills 2:  Ben Mehl pitches
a complete game 6-hitter.  Offensively, Ryan Cervone was 2 for 3,
Josh Havassy was 2 for 3 and Derek Concepcion had 2 RBIs.

5/10/00 --  Fair Lawn 10...Ramsey 7:    FL battled from behind scoring 4 runs  in the fifth inning to overtake the 15-3 Ramsey Rams.  Derek Concepcion picked up the win with a gutty complete-game performance.  Dan Rosenberg, Mike Rozema, Tom Letizia and Concepcion enjoyed multi-hit games, while Ryan Cervone drew 4 walks.  Fair Lawn's defense turned 3 double plays, including two featuring outfield assists.  For the Cutter "road warriors" this was their fourth road victory over a ranked opponent.

5/11/00 --  Fair Lawn 14...Ridgewood 2:  Fair Lawn stepped out of the NBIL pennant race today to play an independent game.  Striking for 6 runs with the first six batters in the line-up, the Cutter offense helped Jake Strauss to his 1st Varsity win.  Fair Lawn got homers from Mike Rozema (5 RBIs) and Josh Mehl (3 RBIs).  Tom Letizia had 3 hits and 3 RBIs, while Dan Rosenberg and Matt Kemp had 2 extra-base hits apiece. 

5/12/00 --  Fair Lawn 6...Wayne Hills 2:  A 4-run second inning propelled the Cutters to their fourth straight win of the week.  Joe Harris picked up his 5th win of the season.  Mike Rozema cracked a triple and home run, while driving in 4 runs.  Josh Mehl chipped in with 3 hits, while Dan Rosenberg, Josh Havassy and Matt Kemp had 2 safeties apiece.

5/15/00 --  NV/Demarest 6...Fair Lawn 5 (9 inn.): Demarest scored with 2 outs in the 7th to tie the Cutters and then won the game in extra innings to knock Fair Lawn out of first place.  Derek Concepcion accounted for all 5 Cutter runs with a 3-run homer and a 2-run double.  Mike Rozema chipped in 2 hits as Fair Lawn saw  its' 6-game win-streak halted.

5/17/00 --  Fair Lawn 9...Ramapo 3:  Fair Lawn slugged its' way back into a 1st Place tie by turning back the Green Raiders.  A 7-run third inning gave winner Joe Harris (6-2) all the support he needed.  Led by Ryan Cervone's 3 hits, the Cutters amassed a 14-hit attack.  Collecting 2 hits apiece were Dan Rosenberg, Mike Rozema, Derek Concepcion, Josh Mehl and Brian Mykulak.  Dan "The Human Highlight Film" Rosenberg stole a 2-run homer with a spectacular catch, crashing through the left field fence.

5/22/00 --  State Tournament -- 1st Round:  Fair Lawn 2...Wayne Valley 1:  Fair Lawn advanced in the opening round of the Group 4 tournament behind a complete game performance from Derek Concepcion.  Concepcion allowed 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking one.  Josh Mehl hit a solo homer and Brian Mykulak plated the winning run, laying down a suicide squeeze bunt.

5/23/00 --  Bergenfield 7...Fair Lawn 3:  Scoring 7 times in the first 3 innings, Bergenfield jumped to an early lead that the Cutters could not recover from.  The Bears move ahead of the Cutters into 1st Place in the NBIL.  Dan Rosenberg clouted a 2-run homer for Fair Lawn.

5/24/00 --  Fair Lawn 14...Old Tappan 7:  Led by Dan Rosenberg's 5 RBIs and Matt Kemp's 4 RBIs, the Cutters turned back Old Tappan to conclude regular season play.  Ben Mehl ran his record to 5-0, with 4 strong innings in relief of his brother Josh.  The victory capped a very successful 16-6 NBIL season.

5/26/00 -- State Tournament -- Sectional Quarterfinal:  Fair Lawn 4...Vernon 3:  Ryan Cervone's 2-out single scored Josh Havassy with the winning run in the 7th inning  to cap a wild Cutter comeback.  The Cutters trailed 3-1 when reliever Ben Mehl came in and shut the door; throwing 3 2/3  innings of scoreless relief to record the win.  Held to only 5 hits, FL  capitalized on Mike Rozema's RBI  single and Josh Havassy's suicide squeeze bunt in the 5th inning to tie the score.  The win advances Fair Lawn to the Sectional Semifinals Tuesday against the winner of Kearny (1) / Clifton (8).

5/27/00 -- Bergen County Tournament -- Opening Round:  Fair Lawn 10...Glen Rock 4:  Joe Harris fired a complete game 6-hitter as Fair Lawn defeated the 20-3 Glen Rock Panthers.  (Glen Rock is the defending Group 1 State Champion.)  Harris struck out 7 and was supported by a 13-hit Cutter attack.
Mike Rozema crushed a 2-run homer to deep center as he went 3 for 4 on the day.  Dan Rosenberg, Derek Concepcion and Josh Mehl collected 2 hits apiece and catcher Brian Mykulak added a solo HR.  Fair Lawn advances to the quarterfinal round 5/28 to take on top-seeded St. Joseph Regional.

5/28/00 -- Bergen County Tournament -- Quarterfinal Round:  St. Joseph Reg. 4...Fair Lawn 3:  The Cutters took the top-seeded St. Joseph Regional to 10 heart-pounding innings before falling 4-3.  Fair Lawn rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the contest in the 6th inning on RBI base hits from Mike Rozema and Derek Concepcion.   Again, Fair Lawn erased another SJR lead in the bottom of the 8th, but could not push across the winning run despite loading the bases.  The game featured several outstanding defensive plays by second baseman Ryan Cervone and centerfielder Matt Kemp.  Concepcion pitched an amazing 10 innings, bolstering a staff that had played 6 games in 7 days.

5/30/00 --  State Tournament -- Sectional Semifinal:  Kearny 6...Fair Lawn 0:  The Cutters season came to a close today as they dropped a 6-0 decision to top-seeded Kearny.  Mike Rozema collected the only 2 hits for Fair Lawn in his high school finale.  Kearny advances to the Sectional Championship game.  Fair Lawn finishes with a 20 - 8 record; its' second 20-win season in 3 seasons.  The Fair Lawn Seniors close their Varsity careers with an outstanding 60 - 22 mark over 3 years.
